GREENVILLE S.C. (WSPA) – The Legacy Park connector officially opened Thursday, allowing residents in the Verdae neighborhood to safely walk, run, or ride their bikes to the Swamp Rabbit Trail .
According to Greenville city leaders, the connector has been a long-awaited promise to the Verdae neighborhood for the past ten years.
“Everybody’s really excited to see the connectivity for the neighborhood’s stand point because the trail connects everything that everybody loves about Greenville,” said Calin Owens, senior mobility coordinator for the City of Greenville.
The trail connects the recently completed Green Line extension of the Swamp Rabbit Trail to Legacy Park.
It starts by Legacy Park’s lower pond and continues to an elevated boardwalk bridge system that goes over Laurel Creek.
Now that the connector is officially open, residents in the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods love the finished product.
“This is amazing. We were able to come right off the trail and get into this neighborhood which I would’ve never known was here,” said Greenville resident Monique Damiano.
