The Greer Police Department has restarted its community outreach program, Fist Bump Friday, at local schools. This initiative started at Chandler Creek Elementary School and involves police officers visiting schools to interact with students. Sgt. Ashley Wright, a participant in the program, confirmed its expansion to all city schools.

The latest visit was to Dunbar Child Development Center. Wright shared that the initiative has been well-received by the school community, including teachers, administrators, and students. She noted its positive impact, particularly in making children feel at ease around officers.

Fist Bump Friday is a part of the Greer Police Department’s Community Outreach Division. It has been running for several years, with officers participating on the first Friday of every school year. The goal is to cultivate a positive relationship between the police and the community, especially the youth.

Wright stressed the program’s role in fostering trust between the police and the community. She mentioned that it gives children a positive initial interaction with a police officer, which can make them feel more comfortable seeking help from officers in the future.
