Anderson police officer accused of assaulting 2 people in his custody

ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) – An Anderson police officer was arrested Tuesday on charges that he assaulted two people in his custody in November 2023.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, 35-year-old Brantley Keith Creel was charged with two counts of misconduct in office, first degree assault and battery, and second degree assault and battery.

Warrants stated that Creel had a person in handcuffs on November 3 when he hit the victim twice in the head and neck with his knee, breaking the victim’s jaw.

In a second case, Creel was escorting a handcuffed person from an apartment on November 14 when he caused the victim to hit their head on a railing post, leaving a four-inch cut on their head, according to warrants.

SLED was requested to investigate the case by the Anderson Police Department. SLED said Creel no longer works for the department.

Creel was booked into the Anderson County Detention Center.
