PICKENS COUNTY S.C. (WSPA) – A group of organizations are teaming up to build a safe space for those in Pickens County experiencing homelessness or close to becoming homeless.
According to Pickens County officials, Leadership Pickens County is a project group that chooses a non-profit organization each year to help.
The group was organized by the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce, Pickens Chamber of Commerce and Clemson Chamber of Commerce.
Officials said they chose to help Family Promise of Pickens County as their 2024 class project. They started construction to build an awning and a playground for families experiencing homelessness.
The awning and playground will be a safe place for those families to relax during the day and enjoy spending time together.
“We felt like our class project could best fit the community through Family Promise and help them with their mission,” said Matthew Golden, the project manager for Leadership Pickens County.
Family Promise’s mission is to help families in a crisis get back on their feet while finding housing that allows them to stay together.
