The Black Studies Center is a vast collection of resources on African American history and culture. It boasts nearly 2,000 videos and images, such as Langston Hughes’s 1950 performance of ‘The Weary Blues’ and Roy Wilkins’s 2014 Civil Rights speech.
The collection also contains articles from reference sources like The Routledge Encyclopedia of African Literature and The Handbook of African American Literature. It includes selections from ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, as well as biographies and other reference entries from various sources.
The Center houses three million articles from historical newspapers like The Chicago Defender, Final Call, and The Freeman, among others. These newspapers offer a historical view of the African American experience.
The collection also features essays from Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience. These essays discuss topics like Economic Inequality, the African Diaspora, African American Religious Experience, and Black Women’s Studies.
Finally, the Center includes articles from numerous scholarly journals. Titles include the Review of Black Political Economy, The Black Scholar, African Arts, and Callaloo. These articles offer detailed analysis and perspectives on different aspects of African American history and culture.
