Arrest after Clemson student assaulted

Clemson student saved by a good samaritan…

A harrowing turn of events happened late Tuesday morning after a Clemson student agreed to help a man who needed a ride to his broken down car.

Darrell Scott Brooks of Oconee county asked the student at an off-campus apartment complex for a ride.  While on their way, Brooks forced the victim to pull over into a church parking lot along Fants Grove Road then used a knife to attack the young woman and attempted to pin her down.

A good Samaritan who was driving by at the time heard the victim yelling for help and, because of their action, she was able to escape.

Brooks fled the scene using the victim’s car and was later taken into custody by Oconee County Deputies after he crashed the vehicle.

According to the ACSO, 57-year-old Brooks is a registered sex offender in Oconee County and was recently released from a “heavy sentencing in the spring.”

The suspect remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center, charged with Kidnapping, Grand Larceny and Assault with the Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct.
