SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Multiple construction projects are underway on one busy highway in Duncan, meant to simplify things for drivers in that area. Highway 290 is a busy road that can be tough for drivers to navigate.
“Especially if you’re going to Greenville on this road early in the morning, it is very difficult,” Spartanburg driver, Molly Moore said.
To help improve the highway, the South Carolina Department of Transportation is constructing a “diverging diamond interchange” at I-85 and SC Highway 290. This new design is to help improve the flow of traffic near the highway.
While Spartanburg County is in the process of resurfacing Highway 290 from Reidville Road to North Danzler.
“We started this project about a month ago, there was a little behind the scene work that had to be done first before drivers would see that paving work. They officially started paving last week and this week you are going to see at least a third of that work completed,” Scottie Kay Blackwell, Communications Manager for Spartanburg County. “They started (the resurfacing project) right at the SCDOT divergent diamond project, right there at the interstate where QT is and they are working their way towards Reidville Road.”
