Greenville County officials said Helene’s damage is ‘catastrophic’

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Officials with Greenville County spoke on Sunday afternoon, regarding Tropical Storm Helene and what residents can expect in the coming days.

The county scheduled representatives with the sheriff’s office, emergency management, fire, EMS and other departments that spoke at a press conference at 2:30 p.m.

Greenville County EOC reported that 90 percent of the county is without power. Crews emphasize that residents should stay off the roads to allow them to more efficiently address the situations.

Full-staffed efforts to remove trees from roadways will begin at 7 a.m., and will continue until sunset.

Officials also said that if you have damage to your residence, turn off your main breaker so that the power doesn’t back feed when restored. People are also advised to turn off ovens and stoves, if your home is damaged.
