SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Mobile Meals of Spartanburg was able to give out 1,300 warm meals on Tuesday to those who still do not have power.
Mobile Meals President and CEO Laura Boles said even the fallen trees in the parking lot didn’t stop volunteers from showing up around 7:30 a.m. to help pack meals.
“It’s a vital service we provide everyday in Spartanburg County but today it’s even more important because of the natural disaster that we are dealing with across this county,” Boles said.
By 9 a.m. hot meals were being delivered all over the county, thanks to the volunteers.
“We were so blessed that mobile meals has power and we knew that it was so important for us to be able to get open and get a hot meal to the 1,300 people that we serve across Spartanburg County,” Boles said.
“I unexpectedly had the day off like so many of us and I’m just so grateful that I came through the storm relatively unscathed,” said volunteer, Julie Gilmore. “The idea that I could give back to people who are home alone, scared and don’t necessarily have access to food, it was just an easy decision to come out and help today.”
