South Carolina live updates: Helene recovery will cost billions, restaurants step up

Relief efforts continue in the Upstate region after Tropical Storm Helene left communities devastated, roads impassable and thousands without power.

City of Greenville update on cleanup

The City of Greenville posted on social media sites:

“As the sun rises on this Thursday morning, our crews, our contractors, and utility companies are already at work. The only streets that are still blocked involve power lines.

–There are only 38 streets still blocked. There are 1,024 streets in the city. Nine of the 38 still have utility crews actively working on them. They hope to have all remaining streets cleared by the end of the day.

–All streets in the City that were blocked by trees without power lines have been cleared. Wednesday, the team cleared 96 partial blockages and 33 total blockages from City roadways.

–Contractors are set to begin vegetative waste removal, including tree limbs and branches, stumps, grass clippings and other plant material.
