(WSPA) — While some school districts in the Upstate will remain closed Monday, others will re-open their doors to students for class.
Greenville County
Greenville County Schools announced Friday that schools will be closed on October 7.
The district added that there will be no eLearning and all activities and field trips are canceled. Around 51% of teachers in the district do not have internet access.
Whether or not school will be in session Tuesday will be determined on Monday.
The district attributed the closure to unsafe road conditions for both students and employees.
Officials said that 300 district employees drove 9,000 miles to evaluate route conditions.
“While considerable improvement has been made since Hurricane Helene hit last Friday, the process documented more than 1,500 issues making it unsafe for both buses and cars, including downed and low-hanging power lines, significant amounts of debris in the roads, complete road blockages, closed bridges, sinkholes, and traffic signal outages at major intersections,” the district said.
