Greenville County is leaving the ‘response mode’ and moving to ‘recovery’ after Helene

Greenville County is moving from emergency response to the recovery process after more than a week since Hurricane Helene.

At a briefing updating the county’s response, Councilman Dan Tripp said Sunday that 10% of Greenville residents remain without power.

Here’s the status of restoring power, where to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance, and how to get help with debris removal.

Energy

  • Blue Ridge Electric has 887 people still affected by power outages.
  • Duke Energy has 45,510 people still affected by power outages.
  • Laurens Electric has 1,686 people still affected by the power outages.

FEMA assistance

Jessica Stumpf, director of Greenville County Emergency Management, said it is important for residents to apply for FEMA assistance programs.  People can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov using the FEMA app or calling 1-800-621-3362. As of 5 p.m. Saturday, over 45,000 people in the county had registered for FEMA assistance.

Stumpf advised people denied FEMA assistance to keep reapplying.  FEMA representatives are available at McAlister Square, 225 South Pleasantburg Drive,  Greenville, to help work through the application process.
