Gun found in Anderson Co. student’s bag, police say

WILLIAMSTON, S.C. (WSPA) — A student was arrested Thursday after school officials found a Glock .380 firearm in the student’s bag.

According to the Williamston Police Department, a teacher at Palmetto High School overheard two students talking about violence.

Police said the teacher heard the pair referring to a bag one of the students was carrying.

After sending the student to a conference room to speak with assistant principal Darryl Imperati.

Imperati then searched the bag, discovering the gun wrapped in a pair of sweatpants.

Sergeant Hopkins with the police department’s school resource officer division arrested the student and took the gun.

The student was detained and remains in custody at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.

The student was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a minor
  • Possession of a firearm on school property
