A Greenville woman has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after 30 dogs were found living in horrific conditions.
Betty Ordonez of Greenville faces the following charges:
- 14 counts of ill-treatment of animals
- 14 counts of failure to comply with DHEC regulations on vaccination of domestic animals
- One count of failure to bury a deceased animal
- Seven counts of dogs running at large
Ordonez is currently held at the Anderson County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing. Additional charges could be forthcoming.
On October 19, officers responded to a call about animals at large on Blue Willow Circle, according to the Honea Path Police Department. Upon arrival, they discovered nearly 30 dogs living in horrific conditions.
According to the report, several dogs were confined to small enclosures, one of which was a deceased canine, and two puppies and several others roamed freely on the property and the surrounding roadways.
Police officers contacted animal control to assist with the situation. According to the report, Honea Path officers, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, and the PAWS animal shelter worked together to remove the dogs from the premises. They ensured the animals received necessary medical attention and were transported to a local shelter for further care.
