Most ignored cancer symptoms

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – For the first time in history, health experts predicted more than two million people would be diagnosed with some form of cancer in 2024. That’s almost 5,500 diagnoses a day, according to the American Cancer Society.

As part of our “Ask the Expert” series, in partnership with Bon Secours St. Francis , 7NEWS spoke with a doctor about knowing the signs and some of the most commonly ignored symptoms.

“One in two people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime,” said Dana Laird, nurse practitioner.

With 20+ years of experience in the medical field, Dana Laird said cancer research has evolved through the years with troubling trends.

“It’s the leading cause of death worldwide,” said Laird.

The past three decades have shown a steady decline in cancer-related deaths, however, the number of people diagnosed is trending up, according to the American Cancer Society.

“It’s not just the older crowd either. I mean, we’re seeing 30-year-olds coming in with metastatic cancers,” said Laird.
