Deputies arrest suspect in Simpsonville attempted murder case

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) — Police in Simpsonville arrested a man in connected to an assault that occurred Sunday at a motel.

According to the Simpsonville Police Department, officers arrived at a Grandview Drive motel Sunday and found a woman with multiple injuries to her face and hands.

Officials said suspect Robert Lamont Burton left before police arrived at the scene. Police arrested Burton at his home Piedmont. Burton had to be taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in a fire that occurred at his home .

Warrants report that Burton is accused of strangling the victim, crushing her trachea and repeatedly hit the woman in the head with a tire iron.

Burton was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Police said that Burton will be taken to Greenville County Detention Center after being discharged from the hospital.
