This Big 12 school has parted ways with a former Clemson staffer.
UCF defensive coordinator Ted Roof has been fired, head coach Gus Malzahn announced on Monday.
The Knights (3-5) have lost five straight games, with their defense allowing 37-plus points in three of those losses. UCF ranks 86 th nationally in scoring defense (27.1 points per game allowed) and 79 th nationally in total defense (379.1 yards per game allowed).
Malzahn discussed the decision to fire Roof and turn the defensive play-calling responsibilities over to co-defensive coordinator/associate head coach Addison Williams.
“I made a decision this morning to make a change with our defensive coordinator position,” Malzahn said, via UCFSports . “Really appreciate Ted. I appreciate his professionalism. Wish him nothing but the best. Addison Williams will be our defensive play-caller moving forward. I know our players have a lot of trust in him. So, looking forward to watching him.”
Before joining UCF’s staff as defensive coordinator back in January, Roof spent the last two seasons as Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator under OU head coach and former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
