Fall Weather Week: Cold fronts & body aches

(WSPA) – Some people love the summer months and the heat that comes with it.

“I wish the sun was out, and I wish it was like 100 degrees right now because I love hot weather.”

Other people prefer the fall and cooler months.

“Change in season, I love the cold weather. So I love to see that coming.”

Regardless of how you feel, change is inevitable when it comes to the weather.

During the fall, we typically see more cold fronts.

When that happens, Physician Assistant Geoff Carlson said he sees more patients with joint pain as well.

“What we’ve found is that sudden drop in barometric pressure. When that pressure goes lower, sometimes we can see a little bit of swelling in our joints. And that can cause some people to have some achiness and some pain.”

The drop in temperature can also play a role.

“We see the temperature change. If there’s a sudden drop in temperature. It’s thought that may be that it can decrease some of that blood flow to those joints.”

The strength of the cold front also matters.
