Upstate police department stresses Halloween safety

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Many families with young children take to the streets to trick or treat for Halloween. There are a number of dangers local law enforcement said people should be aware of.

Spartanburg police told 7NEWS they generally have a lot more eyes on the roads on days like these as children trick or treat. They refer to Halloween as one of the most dangerous nights of the year for pedestrians.

Major Art Littlejohn with the Spartanburg Police Department said they’ll continue to follow the same plan they have for years to help ensure all trick-or-treaters get through the area safely. At the same time, he’s urging parents to be vigilant.

He said his main concern is drivers not paying attention. Littlejohn said local roads may still have damage and debris from Helene which can add additional challenges.

“Halloween is the most dangerous night of the year for pedestrians so it’s very important that parents take initiative, make sure children are walking safely,” said Littlejohn.
