Play. Advocate. Live Well’s city trails are open, but there’s still plenty to be done to restore them to their pre-storm state.
PAL’s Trails Development Director Leigh MacDonald said most of the organization’s trails took a hit from Tropical Storm Helene.
“We’ve tried to tackle different segments with different volunteer groups the last couple of weeks, mainly taking some of the debris, making some big piles for our partners to come pick up,” MacDonald said.
The first cleanups were held Oct. 5 at the Lower Drayton and Three Creeks Trails .
The most recent community cleanup was held Oct. 26 on the River Birch Trail, which runs parallel to Lawson’s Fork Creek on East Main Street.
Volunteers at the trail cleanup sponsored by Ryan Homes pulled around 20 tires out of Lawson’s Fork Creek and replanted around 30 young trees that were blown over during the storm with stake supports to help them stay upright.
