Nationally, several brands of ready-to-eat foods have been recalled recently, and now Yu Shang Food, Inc., a Spartanburg, SC establishment, is issuing a nationwide recall of approximately 4,589 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on November 9, 2024, as a precautionary measure.
The affected RTE meat and poultry products were produced between October 21 and October 27, 2024, with “use by” dates ranging from August 21 to August 27, 2025. These products, bearing the establishment number “P-46684” or “EST. M46684” inside the USDA mark of inspection, were distributed to retail locations across the country and sold online.
The potential contamination was identified during routine FSIS testing and follow-up activities on products produced by Yu Shang Food, Inc. on October 21, 2024.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that poses a significant risk to certain groups, including older adults, pregnant women and their newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, and gastrointestinal issues. In severe cases, the infection can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, and life-threatening conditions.
