GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees voted on Monday to extend its contract with schools superintendent Burke Royster by three years.
As a result of the extension, Royster, who has led the district since 2012, will remain at Greenville County Schools through 2028.
The board met on Monday for an annual review of Royster’s performance as superintendent.
He was assessed on six categories: instructional leadership, quality personnel, culture of achievement, organizational, operational and resource management, communications and community relationships and tone from the top.
“This rating is reflective of the steady and impressive progress Greenville County Schools has made over the past school year under Dr. Royster’s leadership,” said GCS Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Carolyn Styles in a press release. “The evaluation highlighted increased academic achievement in many areas, remarkable gains in college and career readiness, and an all-time high graduation rate of 88.7%. Under the leadership of Dr. Royster, there is no doubt the District is setting the bar for excellence in achievement and innovative practices at the state and national levels. The future for our students has never been brighter!”
