A meal on wheels has made its way to the Upstate as the iconic ’90s car, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, is spending a week in Greenville to tour the area, bring about smiles and because it’s a “BUN-derful” idea, according to driver Cooper Albert, also known as Coop Dog.
From Nov. 11 to 18, he and his roadside partner, CornDog Kate, will drive the longtime commercial prop vehicle to various events throughout the county.
Wish you were an Oscar Mayer Wiener? Here’s how and where you can find the well-known vehicle in the Upstate:
What is the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile?
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile originated in 1936 by Oscar Mayer’s nephew, Carl G. Mayer. The model coming to Greenville has less than 5,000 miles on the odometer but brings tons of history to the Upstate.
The food vehicle does not sell any actual food items but many other forms of memorabilia, such as wiener whistles, stickers, coupons, and other miscellaneous gifts. According to Albert, the driver of the Wienermobile, their vehicle is 60 hot dogs long, 24 hot dogs high, and 18 hot dogs wide. It was built on an Izuzu base car frame with a Chevy V8 motor.
