Spartanburg Co. prison inmate dead, coroner says

ENOREE, S.C. (WSPA) — An inmate at Tyger River Correctional Institute died at a hospital over the weekend.

According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, officials were called to Spartanburg Medical Center on Sunday night to identify a dead inmate.

Though the coroner’s office identified the inmate as 56-year-old Michael Williams, officials still are unsure as to what caused Williams’ death.

Officials said an examination of Williams did not reveal any signs of foul play, but more forensic testing is required to determine the cause and manner of his death.
