PIEDMONT, S.C. (WSPA) – It’s been more than a year since Janet Abrilz was found dead at a park in Piedmont.
Deputies said it’s the only unsolved homicide case in Greenville County in the past two years. A team of investigators has been working around the clock to, not only, continue that success rate, but also uncover new leads. That effort continued on Friday.
It’s been more than 440 days.
“We just don’t have a lot of evidence to go off of,” said Lt. Ryan Flood with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
Greenville County deputies were hoping to find new leads in a case that has gone cold, as they went door to door Friday passing out flyers.
The death investigation opened on August 27, 2023. That’s when deputies said Janet Abrilz, better known as “Shorty” in the community, was found dead along the wood line at Lakeside Park. Investigators believe she died several days before she was found.
It’s an area normally visited by families and neighbors like Rhonda Sheran.
“There’s adults and children over there. They bring their children,” said Sheran. “I wouldn’t go there by myself.”
