CLEMSON – After losing another offensive lineman during the 24-20 win over Pitt on Saturday, Clemson has gotten thin in a hurry at the position.
Elyjah Thurmon went down on the Tigers’ first offensive play with what head coach Dabo Swinney said looked like a season-ending injury. The true freshman was in the lineup due to Tristan Leigh being out with an ankle injury suffered early in last week’s win over Virginia Tech. Marcus Tate also missed the game against the Hokies.
With guys like Collin Sadler, Dietrick Pennington and Ian Reed all out with season-ending injuries as well, Swinney was asked on Sunday if he knew how the team would handle the offensive line during practice this week.
“Yeah, we got a feel,” Swinney said during his weekly Zoom call. “It’s crazy.”
With Clemson set to host The Citadel on Saturday (3:30pm/CW), it’s feasible that some players could get an extra week to heal up.
“Sadler and Tate and Leigh and Elyjah are really good players, but we’ll see,” Swinney added. “We’ll see where we’re at (Monday) and figure it out. We got a whole week to figure it out. So we’ll roll some guys out there.”
