The cross at Pretty Place has been re-installed.
In an Instagram post, the news was shared with YMCA Camp Greenville’s 22,000 followers.
“It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Construction is nearing completion and it was deemed safe to re-install the cross,” the post read.
The cross was installed by Pretty Place/Camp Greenville Director of Operations Nicholas Patton and Austin Eckles of Hogan Construction Group, according to the post.
Pretty Place was heavily damaged when Tropical Storm Helene came through with high winds and rain and pummeled the Upstate and western North Carolina, leaving a trail of destruction.
Earlier this month, YMCA Camp Greenville announced that Fred W. Symmes Chapel, or “Pretty Place,” will re-open on January 3.
On October 10, when the media was allowed to visit Pretty Place, a “gaping hole” was visible in the roof, and the grounds were littered with fallen trees. Crews had to chainsaw their way up the road to reach the camp on the eastern ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
