WILLIAMSTON, S.C. (WSPA) – With the help of volunteers and donations from across the country, one Upstate man has helped donate hundreds of sheds to Hurricane Helene victims in western North Carolina.
Sam Byler lives in Williamston, South Carolina.
Byler said when he took a trip up to western North Carolina after the storm, those images weighed heavy on his mind.
“When people say that videos and pictures do not do it justice, that’s the truth,” Byler said.
Byler has worked in the shed industry for many years. He said after his trip to North Carolina, he wanted to do something to help.
“I have never seen anything like this,” Byler added. “We are 90 days past and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.”
Byler took to Facebook , expressing that he wanted to donate 100 sheds to Helene victims.
“I made a post that said I want to do this. This is my way to do this. To raise awareness for suicide and depression and the shed industry just took it over. I think within 24 hours we had 50 sheds donated,” Byler recalled. “It literally started without a plan which my friends will tell you, that’s the way most of my life goes.”
Months later, Byler has been able to give away more than 200 sheds and counting. The sheds have been donated to Byler, then Byler and volunteers help deliver to those in need.
