(WSPA) – A system arriving in the area Friday will bring a chance for rain, snow, and ice to the Upstate and western North Carolina.
While temperatures will be cold enough for freezing conditions and plenty of moisture will be available for precipitation, it is not certain what type of precipitation we will see in the Upstate.
The low pressure system which will bring the moisture will be developing along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and head in our direction. The exact track of that low pressure system will determine what type of precipitation we will see.
If the track moves the storm further north, the Upstate would see more rain and less snow and ice. If the system remains further south, more snow and ice is possible.
The system will be fast moving but the exact speed of the storm will have an impact on any rain, snow, or ice accumulations.
Any snow or ice could cause slippery driving conditions and possibly power outages in the area.
Some forecast models show the possibility of up to a half-inch of freezing rain in parts of the Upstate along with up to 4 inches of snow in some areas.
