Gelato on Woodruff, and a Greenville chef hits South Beach: Weekly Dish

In case you didn’t spot it on your daily commute, a new gelato shop has made its way to Woodruff Road.

The Gelatist originated in Rome, Italy, with locations in Poland, Dubai, Egypt and Texas. The Greenville location officially opened Feb. 7 after a soft opening Feb. 3. The Woodruff Road store serves the Italian treat as well as coffee, dessert cups, baked goods and milkshakes.

In case you don’t know, gelato uses less cream but more milk than ice cream, and doesn’t use egg yolks like frozen custard. Ice cream is also typically served at a colder temperature and tends to have more butterfat than gelato…
