First Alert Traffic: Major downtown Greenville bridge project to begin on Tuesday

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is getting ready to begin a major construction project on the Church Street bridge (U.S. 29).

Starting Tuesday, April 15, the bridge will be reduced from four lanes to two, one in each direction. Drivers heading northbound on U.S. 29 will not be able to make a left-hand turn onto Coffee Street and the speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour.

This is phase one of four of the bridge rehabilitation project.

The SCDOT said the purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the aging U.S. 29 bridge. The project is needed to address the deteriorating bridge deck, update the storm drainage system on the bridge, and improve the overall condition of the structure…
