Upstate man sentenced after shooting at ACSO Deputy

An Upstate man has been sentenced to prison after shooting at an Anderson County Deputy, nearly 7 years ago. 67 year old, George Ernest Morgan was tried and found guilty of attempted murder and a weapons violation.

The charges comes from an incident in 2018 when the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Morgan’s home for a welfare check. Deputy Ben Morris arrived and Morgan began firing a pistol at him.

Deputy Morris took cover and returned fire while Morgan was reloading, Morgan was hit twice. He began firing again and had to reload twice. Eventually, Morgan ran out of ammo and was taken into custody…
