The aroma of fresh, fried fish fills the air in New Bern today as the Shriners Club hosts its 58th annual fish fry. The event, which takes place at three locations including the New Bern Shrine Club on Glenburnie Road, aims to raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Greenville, South Carolina.
Organizers have been hard at work preparing over 3,000 pounds of local fish for the charity event. “Hot fish…they come in these boxes. We’ve been all day catching fish, then they dump them here. My men batter and bread the fish,” said one organizer.
Event Chairman Cleve Woolard, who has led the event for years alongside Co-Chair Steven Lupton, emphasized the importance of the cause. “You know we support the Greenville Shriners Hospital,” said Woolard. Lupton added, “Every year it gets bigger and bigger.”…
