HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — State lawmakers are being asked to bless legislation that would allow casino gaming in South Carolina for the first time — with Pee Dee counties as potential hosts.
On Tuesday, a House Ways and Means subcommittee will take testimony on the “I-95 Economic and Education Stimulus Act” that establishes casino development guidelines for Dillon, Marlboro and Orangeburg counties and creates a state gaming commission — all designated as Tier IV with portions of the interstate running through them.
“For decades we’ve commissioned studies, convened task forces and made unfulfilled promises to better South Carolina’s most disadvantaged areas with few results,” Santee Development Corporation principal Wallace Cheves said in a statement on his company’s website. “It’s time to stop kicking the same can down the road and take a new approach — to think differently and with an open mind.”…
