Harmful algae bloom detected in Lake Hartwell in Anderson County: Officials

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — State environment officials have confirmed that a harmful algal bloom (HAB) was found in Lake Hartwell in Anderson County.

According to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), a water advisory was issued for the entirety of the lake in the county, after residents alerted SCDES of the potential HAB in the lake.

Staff with SCDES collected samples from parts of the lake near Brooks Drive, Gordon Road and Whitfield Road on Tuesday. Residents also found and reported the HAB in other parts of the lake on Wednesday…
