One hospitalized after chemical reaction at Upstate plant starts fire

MAULDIN, S.C. (WSPA) – One person was taken to the hospital after a chemical reaction created a cloud of hazardous gas at a waste treatment plant in Mauldin.

The Mauldin Fire Department responded to a reported chemical spill, with reaction, at the VLS Piedmont at 11:24 a.m. on Friday.

Officials said that upon arrival, a fire broke out in the building. The building had already been evacuated before the fire department arrived…
