An incident one week ago (May 30) at an apartment complex in Central is being investigated by the state police as an officer-involved shooting. From “SLED” (the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division), “Central Police officers responded to an apartment complex, located at University Village Drive, to investigate a disturbance call involving a knife. One of the officers was responding to an apartment when a man opened the apartment door and ran toward the officer with a knife. The officer shot the man, who was taken to the hospital for treatment. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.” So far, this year, SLED counts 24 SC officer-involved shootings.
