Greenville Senior High School expansion denied: city of Greenville Planning Commission

Here’s a recap of the city of Greenville Planning Commission’s meeting June 5:

Rezoning of adjacent neighborhood to Greenville Senior High School

Scott Carline brought an application to rezone 0.38 acres located at 402 Ansel St. just behind Greenville Senior High School’s campus. The application sought a rezone from RH-D to CM with the extra area intended to add to the high school’s parking capacity, adding 19 spaces and a tennis court.

The school plans to demolish its current tennis court with the intent of rebuilding later. If approved, this rezoning would be the first step of a multi-phase acquisition of area with the goal of adding 100 parking spaces to the campus.

Members of the public spoke in opposition to this application believing it may set a precedent of further migration into the Green Avenue neighborhood. Neighbors expressed concern that approval of this application may affect property value due to unstable zoning and added traffic congestion…
