Historic Hester General Store to reopen this fall

Historic Hester General Store near Dacusville will soon reopen under new ownership. The store will see new life as a grab-and-go ice cream and coffee shop. It will also serve light breakfast bites.

The store will reopen under the ownership of brother-and-sister duo Tasha Carpenter and Cody Rathbone. The two are both Coast Guard veterans who are local to Dacusville.

The historic site was previously operated by local chef Katie Chainey, who purchased the building in 2021. The store closed in December 2023. The two-story structure was built in 1893 by Michael Washington Hester. It is on the National Register of Historic Sites.
