Deputies: Two more arrested in connection to 2021 murder of Upstate father

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said two more people have been charged in connection to the death of an Upstate father.

Deputies said Roydarius Devontae Simpson and Shyheen Jaquan Taylor were both arrested on June 13.

On May 10, 2021, officials said 32-year-old Heyward “Trey” Price III was found shot dead at his home on Shade Tree Circle. His two children, 5 and 8 years old at the time, were in another room of the house.

The case went cold for two years until the sheriff’s office arrested Jay’Kwon Tajeek Walker in 2023.

Deputies learned that Walker reportedly traveled from Laurens County with Simpson, Taylor and one other man to commit a robbery. They kicked in the door of the home and when Price fought back, one of the men shot him.

On June 16, 2025, Walker, who was initially charged with murder, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and burglary…
