Report: Intoxicated man arrested after gun goes off in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A man was arrested early Sunday morning after a gun went off while he was interacting with a Spartanburg police officer.

According to a report from the Spartanburg County Police Department, just after midnight Sunday an officer was driving down East Main Street when a man later identified as Zachary Hughes walked into the road to flag the officer down.

The officer said Hughes introduced himself and said he was running for sheriff. According to filings from the board of elections, no one named Zachary Hughes filed to run in the Spartanburg County special election to determine a new sheriff…
