Cooling bags: Prisma Health EMS’ heatwave tactic

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – First responders across the Upstate are adding something new when responding to a heat-related emergency. It’s called a cold-water immersion bag.

Prisma Health EMS say it’s something that can make all the difference between life and death when it comes to heat injuries or illnesses like heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

It’s a large plastic bag that allows first responders to put patients in it – submerging them in water and ice. The bag could be used if someone’s body temperature reaches 104 degrees or higher…
