GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – New housing could be coming to the historic Woodside Mill community in Greenville as the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority (GCRA) explores a potential revitalization project.
The effort centers on an abandoned property once tied to the area’s rich textile heritage. Founded in 1902, the Woodside Mill community was named after mill founder John T. Woodside and became an incorporated town by 1950. Today, the remains of the community include the grandstand of an 11-acre baseball field that sits just a few blocks from the old mill site.
“It was abandoned by the mill and then the mill gave it to the county so we could use it as recreation,” said Greenville County Council member Alan Mitchell. “And then we did some of that over the years, but it’s not a very good productive site.”…
