‘Her smile lit up every room’: Community remembers girl, 12, who died from rare infection

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) – A South Carolina family and community are mourning the loss of a young girl who died from an infection that is especially rare in adolescence.

Loved ones said Ansley “Payce” Chappell, a rising seventh grader at Dacusville Middle School, died from bacterial meningitis, strep B, on Tuesday.

“Payce was a kind, bright, and determined young lady whose positive spirit and warm smile left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her,” school officials shared. “She represented the very best of our Dacusville community, and her presence will be deeply missed.”…
