Work has stated on Southernside East, a 93-unit affordable housing project for older adults at the corner of West Washington and Hudson streets just north of Unity Park in Greenville, South Carolina.
The new development will offer one- and two-bedroom apartments designed for low- and moderate-income residents aged 55 and up. Each unit will feature a private balcony, in-unit laundry hookups, and access to shared amenities, including a fitness room, computer lab, mail center, community laundry area, and a gathering space. Additional features include a leasing office and secure private storage rooms.
Creative Builders Inc., a Greenville-based construction firm, is serving as general contractor for the project. Construction is being led on site by Tyler Civils.Southernside East was designed by local architecture firm McMillan Pazdan Smith. The project is being developed by Greenville Housing Fund and Harmony Housing Affordable Development, with financing support from SC Housing through its Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.
