The city of Greenville plans to construct a new pedestrian bridge along the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, spanning Verdae Boulevard.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 4. Crews will begin removing the existing at-grade crossing and close surrounding sidewalks a week before construction. A portion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail from the Legacy Park connector to Verdae Boulevard will also be closed starting July 28.
The 1,180-foot pedestrian bridge is expected to take a year to complete, opening in the fall of 2026. According to the city, traffic along Verdae Boulevard will be maintained for the majority of the project’s duration. One road closure will occur later in the project when the largest section of the bridge will be installed overnight.
The total cost for the new pedestrian bridge is $7.4 million. The city allocated $4.5 million from the Capital Improvement Project budget for the bridge. Approximately $2.9 million in state funding will also be used for the project…
