‘We will be ruthless’: Families of serial killer’s victims demand action following FOX Carolina Investigation

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Families of two men who died at the hands of an upstate serial killer are demanding action from the State Department of Corrections after FOX Carolina discovered what appears to be the killer’s attempts at profiting from their pain.

Todd Kohlhepp pleaded guilty to killing seven people in 2017. His crimes were discovered the year before, when Spartanburg County deputies were searching his property for a missing couple. The deputies found the missing woman chained up in a shipping container. She told them Kohlhepp shot and killed her boyfriend, Charlie Carver.

Kohlhepp later admitted to killing Johnny and Meagan Coxie, a married couple who had been reported missing. He also admitted he was responsible for the 2003 quadruple homicide at the Superbike shop near Chesnee, where he killed Scott Ponder, Brian Lucas, Chris Sherbert, and Beverly Guy. Kohlhepp was given seven life sentences for each of his victims.

In June, FOX Carolina Investigates reported Kohlhepp appeared to be trying to profit from his crimes. Records we obtained through a freedom of information act request showed several messages sent to and from Kohlhepp, suggesting he was working on true crime merchandise like tee shirts, patches, and stickers.
