Greenville, S.C. – After 42 straight days of sweltering 90-degree heat, residents across the Greenville-Spartanburg area are finally catching a break. With afternoon highs struggling to rise out of the 70s, the longest heat streak on record for the Upstate officially ends today.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, this six-week stretch marked an unprecedented run of extreme summer heat, with daily highs consistently hitting or exceeding 90°F since mid-June. Today’s cooler air, ushered in by cloud cover and increased moisture, has broken that oppressive pattern.
While this cooldown brings a welcome change, energy providers are urging residents to continue conserving electricity as the grid recovers from sustained demand.
