- Complimentary classes and workshops at GCCA
- Mentorship
- Opportunities for networking, collaboration and participation in other local arts events
- Participation in a GCCA exhibit and artist talk event
This year’s Brandon Fellows are:
Adelle Pruitt
- Pruitt received a bachelor of fine arts in drawing and painting with a minor in art history from Winthrop University.
- She received artistic training in high school at the Fine Arts Center of Greenville and participated in their ARMES program throughout middle school.
- The Greenville native works with oil paint, acrylic paint and colored pencils. She also uses photography to document the people around her and those photos serve as a reference and inspiration for her paintings. She draws inspiration from familiar places, people and experiences.
- As a Brandon Fellow, Pruitt said she is looking forward to the art community that the fellowship has to offer. “Everyone I’ve met so far has been so welcoming and kind, and I cannot wait to meet the rest of the GCCA artists and community. The fellowship does a fantastic job of nurturing and developing up-and-coming artists, and I am beyond excited to be a part of it.”
Jackson Herren
- The Griffin, Georgia native is a poet, inventor, and sculptor. “It is all poetry; it all flows from the same vein. When I paint, I am writing a poem, when I draw, I am drawing poetry, that is how I have come to see the art that I make, or that is how it has come to see me.”
- As a Brandon Fellow, Herren said he is looking forward to “becoming friends with the other people and artists that won the fellowship, growing with them to create great art that exemplifies the arts community in Greenville.”
Nic Salazar
- Salazar graduated from Macalester College, where she majored in art history and American studies.
- She attended Wade Hampton High School and the Fine Arts Center of Greenville.
- The Greenville resident experiments with all mediums, but her favorites are performance and metal smithing. She also enjoys drawing and ceramics. She draws inspiration from her personal history, emotions and experiences.
- As a Brandon Fellow, Salazar said she is looking forward to exploring “themes of love in my own life and my relationship to my mother. I’m just happy to be creating in a safe space.”
Tripp Brown
- Brown graduated from Coker University with a bachelor of fine arts with honors concentrating in studio art.
- He attended the Academy for Arts Sciences and Technology in Myrtle Beach.
- The Simpsonville resident is a mixed-media artist who creates post-apocalyptic pop, or PAP, art. He combines found/aged materials with print techniques such as risograph, image transfer and cyanotype to breathe new life and evoke a feeling of lost memories.
- As a Brandon Fellow, Brown said he is looking forward to growing his community in Greenville. “I have only lived here for about two years, with half that time being at school. I cannot wait to meet all the people of the upstate and call Greenville home for a while!”
“The decision to expand the fellowship in its 10th year reflects the increasing need for meaningful support for young, emerging artists,” said Ben Tarcson, gallery director at GCCA. “By increasing the number of fellows, we’re opening the door wider to the next generation of creative leaders in our community. We hope to expand even further in the next 10 years.”…
