The location of a former neighborhood market is seeing new life in Urbana Churro Cafe.
The restaurant at 624 Poinsett Hwy. by father-and-son duo Erik Guzmán Sr. and Erik Guzmán Jr. opened July 29. The restaurant serves quick-service fare such as tortas, breakfast burritos and, of course, the fried pastry in the eatery’s name. Guests can also get custom lattes and takeout drinks like Jarritos sodas.
The Guzmáns secured the location – formerly Block & Marley Market – more than a year ago, but began the process toward opening the churro-and-brunch cafe in the past few months. Erik Guzmán Jr. said part of the delay had to do with a change in concept.
“We go to Mexico good bit. So we love the little churrerias that are over there and there’s really nothing similar to that here,” he said…
